Thailand Earthquake Update: Expats in Bangkok Report Safety as Aftershocks Subside, Life Returning to Normal

March 29, 2025 Yesterday (March 28, 2025), a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, causing tremors in parts of Thailand. As an expat living in Bangkok for eight years, I want to reassure everyone back home that things are normal in my area, and the overall impact has been minimal. Since the epicenter was in Myanmar, far from Thailand, the country mainly experienced aftershocks. In Bangkok, where skyscrapers are common, shaking varied by location, while suburban areas remained largely unaffected.

At local factories, many Taiwanese colleagues barely noticed the tremors. However, since earthquakes are rare in Thailand, some Thai employees reacted with concern—some took cover under desks, while others moved outdoors as a precaution. In response, the Thai Prime Minister announced emergency measures, including work suspensions in select areas so residents could return home. Meanwhile, businesses in Bangkok’s suburbs, including car rentals and golf courses, remained unaffected. Popular golf courses like Riverdale and Panya Indra confirmed their normal operations via Line and Facebook, reflecting suburban stability.

On the logistics side, our partnered warehouses in Bangkok’s suburbs and their staff are safe. However, minor aftershock-related disruptions temporarily halted shipments on March 28. Logistics providers expect normal operations to resume by Monday, March 31, with no major supply chain disruptions anticipated.

From what we’ve seen, Thailand remains stable. The Thai Meteorological Department reports that aftershock intensity is gradually fading , and daily life is returning to normal. While Thais tend to be more sensitive to earthquakes, government officials have urged the public to stay calm, assuring them that response teams are in place. For those concerned, rest assured—Bangkok is safe, and life is carrying on as usual.

☎ Reservation Services for Thai Restaurants, Hotels, and Golf

Most reservations for Thai restaurants, itineraries, and vacation apartments in Thailand require a local Thai bank account for booking. (Popular cafes in Thailand like the Maldives-themed Bubble in the Forest Cafe and many unique accommodations outside major cities, such as those in the Pilok area of Kanchanaburi, often do not have online booking and payment mechanisms.)
