Songkran is a World Heritage Site

The Thai Water Festival (Thai: สงกรานต์, Songkran), also known as the Songkran Festival, takes place every April. It is a Thai New Year celebration fixed around April 13th to 15th each year.

Songkran symbolizes washing away bad luck and welcoming prosperity through mutual splashing and blessings. It typically includes customs such as bathing Buddha statues, building sand pagodas, and pouring water on elders for blessings. It has now evolved into a cultural street carnival held all across Thailand..

On December 6, 2023, Thailand's beloved Songkran Festival was officially listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site - (News Report)

👉Many people think Songkran lasts a whole week, but it’s actually only 3 days.

👉Can you get angry if you get splashed? No, way! XD Even the police aren't allowed to get angry when splashed; after all, it’s a New Year blessing.

It never gets old; splashing water every year to bless the coming year. This was when I took my family to Chiang Mai to experience Songkran together.

Thai Songkran Holiday Announcements and Commendations

On the eve of Songkran, company executives come forward to thank employees for their contributions and present awards. At our company, we distribute commemorative gold coins to employees with over 20 years of service—the atmosphere is incredibly warm and moving!

The Super SPECIAL Water-Pouring Ritual

Beyond the street splashing seen by tourists,Thai companiesand families have their own traditional water-pouring rituals..

On the eve of the Songkran break, employees pour water over Buddha statues to pray for peace in the coming year and to thank Buddha for the past year's care. Every Thai person closes their eyes with great devotion while pouring, silently reciting what they wish to tell the Buddha.

Next, everyone begins pouring water over the hands of the top executive, allowing the leader to pray for everyone’s peace and happiness in the New Year! As a foreigner, I joined in, praying to Buddha in English and receiving blessings from the boss.

I hope the Buddha understood what I told Him (laughs). Thai-Songkran-Water-Festival-Customs-songkran-thailand-Employees-Devoutly-Bathing-Buddha-Praying-for-Peace

Most reservations for Thai restaurants, itineraries, and vacation apartments in Thailand require a local Thai bank account for booking.
